MEET THE GREATEST ADVENTURE DOGS

Every dog has a story to tell.

RHETT

Rhett before his Greatest Adventure.

When we first saw Rhett, the black and tan hound dog, we were completely smitten. He had been at the shelter since March, arriving as a stray after being abandoned at the local airport. Rhett and another dog were found together on the tarmac of the runway, left on their own for days before animal control located them and brought them to the shelter. Although the companion who entered with him was adopted right away, sweet Rhett waited patiently, hoping for his second chance.

We were so fortunate to take Rhett out of his cage for two unforgettable days of adventure. We waded in the crystal-clear waters of a wild river in the Great Northern Flats, swam in a lake adorned with rainbow rocks, enjoyed ice cream, took a peaceful pontoon boat ride across a quiet mountain lake, and even got him his very own hot dog, cooked over the campfire! Rhett aced every single activity.

This dog is the very definition of special—a once-in-a-lifetime boy with a heart overflowing with love and light. Rhett represents so many dogs across America who deserve a second chance. If you're looking for a new best friend, consider opening your heart to shelter dogs like Rhett. I promise, this kind of love will change you forever.

After our adventure, the incredible team at the Flathead County Animal Shelter in Kalispell, Montana updated Rhett’s adoption profile with updated photos and a brand new bio. The updates caught the eye of a wonderful couple, who fell in love with Rhett, and adopted him shortly thereafter. Rhett now spends his days lakeside in Montana, and his stays warm with his family at his winter home in Arizona.

VIGO

Vigo before his Greatest Adventure.

Vigo had been waiting behind the bars of his cage at Clatsop Animal Assistance on the Oregon coast for well over a year. If you had asked me why he had waited so long, I would have found no words to explain it. This dog was the truest form of perfection: one warm, beating heart, an endlessly wagging tail, two gemstone eyes sparkling with possibility, and four feet always ready for adventure. When we took Vigo out of his cage and into the world on his Greatest Adventure, he blossomed almost immediately. The difference between the shelter version of him and his adventure self melted each and every one of our hearts as we witnessed his transformation.

Vigo is a Belgian Malinois—smart, handsome, and all that a breed renowned for its incredible intelligence, athleticism, and strength can be. Anyone familiar with Belgian Malinois knows that caring for such a working breed requires both knowledge and a lot of dog savvy.

Over the course of Vigo’s adventure with us, we hiked the fairytale paths of the Pacific Northwest’s iconic forests, played in mountain streams, splashed in waterfalls, rode an original steam engine train down the scenic Oregon coast, discovered coastal beach caves, enjoyed a delicious ice cream cone, explored the iconic Haystack Rock, and swam in the swirling waters of the Pacific.

Vigo posed for every camera like a rockstar. Not one thing bothered him or caused a single hesitation. His confidence was heroic. Throughout the journey, he bonded with every member of our Adventure crew, constantly checking in to ensure we were always together.

This is the kind of perfect dog who sits in a shelter, overlooked for no good reason at all. When you might think that shelter dogs are 'broken', or 'sad', or just someone else's discarded problem - I hope this might help you think again. This is the face of one such shelter dog - a face that can represent so many who also have been left behind. I hope that Vigo can stand for not only himself, but for all those other dogs that are just like him. Waiting patiently for their second chance to come.

We are delighted to share that Vigo was adopted and finally found the place that had always been meant for him—a home where he could continue to live his very own Greatest Adventure.

WHEELBUR

Wheelbur before his Greatest Adventure.

Wheelbur was paralyzed when a marble table fell on him when he was just a few weeks old. He has been in rescue waiting for his forever family to come and find him for his entire life. Nearly 3 years is a long time to wait.

During our time with Wheelbur, we hiked stunning forest trails, and splashed and played in the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. We felt the warm sun on our backs, and adventure in the air as we spent an afternoon cruising the lake in a powerboat, and even enjoyed a special ice cream treat as the sun set on our day of adventure. Despite only having two legs, Wheelbur let absolutely nothing slow him down. He proved that, for one lucky person, he could easily be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure companion.

Wheelbur is currently available for adoption in the Reno, Nevada area through the incredible Scoot to the Stars Rescue!

CHANCE

Chance before his Greatest Adventure.

It’s hard to describe the instant bond we felt with Chance. From the moment he got out of the car with his incredible, infectious energy, our entire crew found it impossible not to smile. Chance made it his business to greet each one of us with the same enthusiasm - and in case you’re wondering, he was not stingy when handing out kisses.

Chance had been in the shelter for nearly a year, just one of a seemingly endless number of pit bulls and pit bull mixes available for adoption in shelters across the United States. But from the moment he left the shelter for his day of adventure, he just seemed to bloom. He embraced every new situation he encountered, from walking along fallen logs, to swimming, to learning to stay and pose for photos. Not only did Chance have an amazing day of adventure, but we had an amazing day because of Chance.

Shortly after updating Chance’s adoption photos, he was adopted by an incredible, fun-loving couple, who plan to travel the country with Chance in their converted bus. From the confines of his shelter cage, to being able to see endless miles of open country, Chance is the perfect example of why we do what we do, and why every dog deserves a second….chance.

Chance’s adventure is coming soon to:

VAL

Val before her Greatest Adventure.

We traveled to the red deserts of Moab Utah to meet Val, an exceptional, beautiful dog who had heartbreakingly spent over 500 days in the shelter without so much as a single application for her adoption.

Val quickly stole our hearts, and proved that she was up for anything. We began on the Colorado River, where, without hesitation, Val hopped into a kayak and floated along with us. As if that wasn’t enough adventure, Val buckled up and joined us for a thrilling UTV ride through the red rock landscapes of Moab. She quickly proved that she was truly built for adventure (despite falling asleep in the UTV). It was truly mind-boggling that she had been overlooked for so long.

After posting Val’s adventure to our YouTube, we finally got the news we had been hoping for. Moved by seeing Val’s video, an amazing woman drove for hours to meet and adopt Val, finally giving her the forever home she has always deserved.

LENNY

Lenny before his Greatest Adventure.

We hit Breckenridge at peak Fall, and the world around us became a fairytale like I had never seen before. We were so lucky to get to work with the incredible Humane Society of South Platte Valley, where we met Lenny, the goofiest, clumsiest and most endearing little guy, who had been waiting a long time for a family to come and find him. So of course, we took him out of his cage on his Greatest Adventure!

We adventured out with Lenny to an alpine lake with water so crystal clear that it sparkled like sapphire in the sun. Huge, soaring mountain walls hugged the lake on both sides, and in the midst of the bright golds and crisp yellows of Fall, we hiked and explored the forest, and splashed and played in the lake’s waters. After Adventure Day 1, Lenny even got to go to downtown Breckenridge and conk out in the luxe, feathery bed of a posh hotel overnight! (but of course not before getting an ice cream cone beneath the glittery bistro lights of the fairytale ski town.)

The next day was truly unforgettable - Lenny got to spend the best day EVER going to camp!! His friends at Camp Bow Wow curated the most special, most unimaginably special day for Lenny! He got to meet so many friends, play in a rainbow ball pit, catch floating bubbles, make his very own Pawcasso artwork, and have a luxuriously soapy bath! (So he could be all sparkly & shiny for his big moment when his new family would find him, of course!)

Almost immediately after Lenny’s Greatest Adventure, Lenny found his forever home with a fun and energetic young couple who can match his limitless, playful energy.
